The 3rd International Wide Open Access workshop location is Maputo, the capital of Mozambique.

The hosting institut is the Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo.

The workshop will be held in the conference room, at “Instittuto de Formação das Telecomunicações” - Maputo

The official name of the country is Republic of Mozambique and is situated in Southern Africa, and covers an area of 799,380 sq km. To the north Mozambique borders Tanzania with the Rovuma river as the natural borderline. To the south, it borders South Africa (Natal Province), to the west, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa (Transvaal Province) and Swaziland and to the east, the Indian Ocean. The country is divided into three regions namely; Southern, Central and Northern, which are subdivided into eleven provinces, further subdivided into 144 districts. The capital is Maputo. Approximately 40% of the population lives in the 2 provinces; Nampula and Zambézia.
Mozambique is considered to be one of the poorest countries in the world with over 60% of the people living below the poverty line. After its independence from Portugal in 1975, the country engaged in a long and devastating civil war for nearly three decades. The year 1992 saw the signing of a peace accord between rival parties, and in 1994 free elections generating over 80% voter turnout were held. Since then, with an infrastructure in total ruins, Mozambique has been faced with the challenge to rebuild its society and economy.
Population: an estimated population of over 18 million people of whom more than half are under age 20. Thirteen percent of the total population lives in urban areas.
Climate: tropical to subtropical
Terrain: mostly coastal lowlands, uplands in center, high plateaus in northwest, mountains in west
Language: The official language is Portuguese, however, there are also various indigenous dialects.The main ethnic groups are indigenous tribal groups 99.66% (comprising of Shangaan, Chokwe, Manyika, Sena, Makua amongst others), Europeans 0.06%, Euro-Africans 0.2% and Indians 0.08% .
Religion: Traditional beliefs, Roman Catholic, Sunni Muslim
